Religion

We were all exposed to Lamott's feelings about religion, but is there a valid point in what she tries to establish? What she tries to imply is that religion is more helpful on a personal basis as private expression, and i for one agree that everyone should be proud of what they believe in, but should not try to convert every person they talk to. Does religion have a deeper meaning or is it a way for a person to escape their daily problems? I once talked to a lady who said her faith in God was what helped her get through the day, and it has me wondering if religion is just a belief, or a way of life.

I think that a person should be their own and have any belief they want to have. Religion goes on forever mainly because of the mysteries and the unknowns. Or should I say the KNOWN. I respect people that goes to church as equally as I respect people that don't. My brother has stopped going to church 18 years ago and I LOVE THAT MAN. He is the most honest and most spiritual person I know. He loves and cares for his family and he's taught me so much!My point is, you don't have to go to church or believe in God or even pray to be a GOOD person.

I think that it can go both ways... People who are strong believers know it as a way of life but there are others that see it as just a belief. If you are a person who strongly believes than you are able to find deeper meaning than someone who is just looking for something to lean on, on a day to day basis. I believe everyone has their own belief but is influenced greatly by others.

I feel if people believe strongly enough in their religion then it can become part of their everyday life and it can get them through their day. I personally dont practice a religon, but i do respect other peoples beliefs and views on religon.

I agree that religion is more on a personal basis to how you veiw life and what you believe. Just because it is more personal however i dont think that they should try to just keep it completely to themselves and i have no problem with religions trying to promote what they believe. If someone has strong feelings for what they beleive in and feel that these beliefs are truly helpful in their life, why not try to help others by making them feel the same?
I also think that religion, even though it is very personal can have a deeper meaning in some peoples life. It can go both ways for those who just escape from problems to those who take it to the next level. Relegion has strong effects on people. I know that my mom started off just looking for a way to escape her problems but as she followed through with it she grew to become very involved and has been much happier ever since.

I think some people believe that God gets them through the day as an excuse for someone believing in them and listening to them. Nobody knows what God is like, but we guess and have him act in our own way that we think is right or the way we think he would act. Religion is a belief to some people, to others its the way of life. Some people only believe in God when a love one is dying or sick, compared to others who believe in him and talk to him everyday just to feel better and "normal". Religion is something you can take anyway you want to and believe in it anyway you would like to.

Religion in personal life can be a powerful moral motivator. Religion has the potential to be very constructive, from bringing people together all the way to giving people hope for their future. However, when an extremely religious person tries to convert others, it becomes a nuisance. Theres a fine line between devotion and fanaticism in religion, and many followers step over that line. As the first post said, you don't have to go to church or believe in god to be a good person.

I think religion is a sense of security for some. To be technical, I am a Roman Catholic. However, I don't think that religions should have titles. All that does is segregate groups more and leaves us with more problems to deal with. I think that it doesn't matter what you believe, just as long as you believe in something. I personally believe in God, Jesus, and the Virgin Mary and go to church every Sunday. However, I don't think that you have to attend church in order to be a good person. Religion doesn't make you who you are, its just a motivator.

No one person can say what religion is, it's a very objective type of thing. To some people it's an escape from the problems of daily life and to others it's the meaning of their life. For those who it is an escape, many have it as a support group and just something their when they need help. For those who it is a way of life, it is a dedication. They are the people who are involved in mass and are viewed as "bible thumpers". However, my opinions aren't always right and others may not agree, but thats their opinion and what everyone is entitled to.
