Greed or Success

The Boston Red Sox won the World Series on Sunday night, but unfortunately that was not the only big sports news that night. The New York Yankees' third baseman Alex Rodriguez opted out of his contract. If you are unaware Rodriguez signed the biggest contract in baseball history in 2001. He had three years remaining with the Yankees that would have kept him the highest paid player in baseball. By opting out it guarantees that he will get an even bigger contract for the next 7 to 10 years. This brings the thought the sphere of success, is Rodriguez just using his talent for success in America or is he just being greedy?

There comes a point at which it doesnt matter how good you are there is no way you should be making $252 million dollars in ten years(A-Rod's previous contract)for playing baseball. Base ball players are extremely overpayed and extremely greedy for asking for more money when they already make millions upon millions. I will say there are a select few, as in all professional sports, that are good people and dontate some of their money to good causes. However,in my opinion, its plain and simple, baseball needs a salary cap to stop the rediculous escalation of contracts.

Greed. This is what is wrong with sports now a days. I love sports, watching and playing. However, I have become incredibly upset with the actions and thoughts of the current "athletes". They are called professional for a reason, but they don't act professionally at all. It upsets me to see this downfall because I am becoming less interested with certain sports now. I did not even watch this baseball season because I have been so unhappy with everything involved with the sport. Professional sports are losing thier professional etiquite and it seems as though it will only continue to get worse.
